This is still happening in solr search. Even did direct solr search - abstract:("schistosomiasis")  http://plossearch-demo.plos.org:8983/solr/select/?q=abstract%3A(%22schistosomiasis%22)&version=2.2&start=0&rows=10&indent=on and it brings back articles without an abstract.

The article seems to have an abstract and "Schistosomiasis" is the first word:

That section is not labeled abstract so what makes you designate it the abstract?

Changed 4 months ago by dragisak

It's indexed as an abstract. Possibly our indexing needs to change.

Some abstracts have a title saying "Abstract" and some not. We decided to show articles regardless if they have that title or not.

The XML does contain an abstract and it does contain the word "Schistosomiasis" so even though it's not displayed on the screen the article is considered to have an abstract.
